The Story

After Green Irish Tweed succeeded in 1985, Olivier Creed asked Pierre Bourdon to help him build its opposite, and Bois du Portugal arrived two years later as the warmer and more formal counterweight. The name points at the aromatic Portuguese timber the whole composition is arranged around.

Fragrance Character

Bergamot opens it clean and brief, closer to a gesture than a citrus top. Lavender carries the middle, aromatic and dry rather than sweet, before the composition settles into sandalwood, cedar and vetiver with ambergris holding it steady. It is a short note list worn at full strength, which is exactly why it reads formal.

Creed Bois du Portugal performance and seasonality

Best Worn

An assured daytime woody for fall and spring, its crisp citrus and dry sandalwood polished enough for the workday and for refined, dressed-up occasions, yet easy enough for relaxed daylight hours.

The Maison

Creed

The polished entrance, from Green Irish Tweed’s cut grass to the swagger of Aventus, tried by the millilitre.

Creed is the fragrance you notice before you notice the person wearing it. Fresh citrus caught over old wood, a lavender that reads like a pressed collar, a pineapple sparkle that has become shorthand for confidence. These are scents people commit to for years, which is exactly why they reward trying first.
