Bortnikoff - Oud Maximus

Oud Maximus is a rose-and-oud monument: bright bergamot, sweet orange and pink pepper give way to an enormous heart of roses, Rose de Mai, Himalayan and Indian rose, attar gulab, over jasmine sambac and frangipani, then down into real Indian oud, smoky birch tar, balsamic tolu and the warmth of deer musk and civet.

The Story

Dmitry Bortnikoff builds Oud Maximus from genuine artisanal materials, real Indian oud and deer musk among them, layering a vast bouquet of roses over a dark, animalic, smoky base. It is maximalism in the truest sense: an attar-style oud built for richness and longevity rather than restraint.

The Nose

Composed by Dmitry Bortnikoff, founder of the Bortnikoff house, also behind Musk Khabib and Musk Cologne.

Fragrance Character

The opening sparkles with citrus and pepper before the roses take over, jammy, honeyed and layered many ways. Clove and cardamom spice it; magnolia and frangipani add creamy white-floral lift. Underneath, real oud, birch tar and civet bring smoke and leathery depth, while tonka, vanilla, tolu and deer musk give a long, warm, animalic drydown.

Best Worn

Cold weather and long evenings, though rich enough to wear formally or casually when you want maximum presence, for those who like their oud unapologetically big.
