An architect at the still
Dmitry Bortnikoff is an architect by profession who came to perfume through distilling. In 2013 he co-founded Feel-Oud, a company that distils agarwood and sandalwood oils. Russian Adam, the other perfumer tied to Feel Oud, went on to found Areej Le Doré. Dmitry used the distilling years as the ground for a house of his own: Bortnikoff opened in Thailand in 2018, and the company is registered in Bangkok.

Oud at full strength
Every Bortnikoff perfume is between 95 and 100 percent natural, and many are built on oud. Oud Maximus, made as a tribute to his son Maxim, sets Laotian, Indian and Thai oud against four rose oils from India, the Himalayas, Indonesia and France, over civet and musk. Sayat Nova, named after the 18th-century Armenian poet, runs apricot and narcissus into rum and vanilla over three ouds from Laos, Bengal and Trat. Tiger Blue, made with Christian Carbonnel, opens on grapefruit, lemon and ginger.

From the house stills
Many of the oils in the formulas come out of the house's own stills, run on 19th-century distillation techniques. The ingredient lists name them: Oud Maximus carries Feel-Oud's Oud Purple Co Chang and a Sri Lankan oud, Oud Monarch pairs Merauke oud with Feel-Oud's Co Chang, and Amber Cologne uses a Sri Lankan oud distilled by Bortnikoff. The extraits come in 9 and 50 ml bottles, some also in 30 ml, and several are poured as 3 g attars.
