The Story

Francis Kurkdjian composed Enlèvement au Sérail in 2007, several years before founding his own house. The name is the French title of The Abduction from the Seraglio, and the scent sits squarely in the Orientalist register that title carries.

Fragrance Character

Bright but brief: citrus lifts the ylang-ylang's banana-cream density for only a few minutes before jasmine, tuberose, and rose close ranks into a dense, powdery-white heart. On skin it wears with real presence at first, then gradually draws inward, the florals softening into sandalwood and vanilla while vetiver keeps the base from turning cloying. It finishes as a warm skin scent, faintly earthy and resinous.

Best Worn

Best suited to cool-weather evenings and unhurried occasions, where the composition has time to open and the room is willing to let something this grand take its place.
