Amouage Fragrances: The Guide to the Best and Where to Start

Most houses build a soft entry bottle. Amouage did not. Interlude 53 logs 10 to 12 hours with sillage in our top band, Enormous, and it is the wrong place to begin. Start at Decision or Reflection 45, as a 2 ml. Take Interlude 53 last, once you know how little to spray.

What the House Style Actually Does

The house thread is resin: frankincense, myrrh, opoponax, labdanum, at extrait strength. The number in the newer names, Interlude 53, Reflection 45, Epic 56, Guidance 46, is the concentration percentage, not a year and not an edition. That is why two sprays here behave like six of something else, and why the sensible unit is 2 ml.

Where to Start

Orris does the work in Reflection 45, iris butter from rhizomes dried for about three years. Logged at 8 to 10 hours, sillage Strong. It fails at distance: it stays inside arm's reach and waits to be found.

Interlude 53 logs 10 to 12 hours, sillage Enormous. It fails indoors: in a car or a lift it stops being perfume and becomes weather. One spray, low on the body, and test it properly before anyone mentions a bottle.

Saffron: three stigmas per crocus, picked by hand, roughly 150,000 flowers to the kilogram. Purpose 50 logs 10 to 12 hours, sillage Enormous, drier than expected: suede and papyrus, not syrup. It reads medicinal for the first ten minutes, so it fails as a gift.

The archetype is Epic 56, and we cannot sell it: every decant size is at zero, leaving only the made-to-order 100 ml bottle. Guidance 46, the plush one, is the same warmth and still pours by the 2 ml. For that warmth today, Purpose 50 is in stock.

Frankincense sits twice in Outlands, top and base, which tells you what it is for. Logged at 10 to 12 hours, sillage Enormous, and among the lowest-priced ways into that band. It fails on warm skin: cumin in the middle, and cumin in heat reads as a body.

Decision is myrrh keeping vanilla dry instead of edible. Logged at 8 to 10 hours, sillage Strong. It fails at ambition: nobody will stop you to ask what you are wearing. Exactly why we suggest it first, and a fair reference among the best niche incense fragrances.
