Erwin Creed was born in Paris in December 1980, the seventh generation of his family in the trade. At ten, kept awake by a horror film, he ran out one night towards a light in the small laboratory beside the family factory at Fontainebleau and found his father, Olivier, at work. They made a composition together, and it was not a success. He learned the rest by watching and working beside his father.
Father and son composed as a pair for years, and their joint work includes Creed Himalaya, Creed Original Vetiver, Creed Acqua Fiorentina, Creed Love in White and Creed Fleurs de Gardenia. Olivier told him to keep his own reading of every idea, and he holds that composition counts for more than rare materials. He was co-creative director beside his father, who died in May 2026. Away from the laboratory he races endurance cars: he won an LMP3 race at Monza in 2017 and finished the 24 Hours of Le Mans in 2018 and 2019.
Creed Virgin Island Water, from 2007, is one he co-created with his father: lime and bergamot over coconut and white flowers, on tonka and white musk. Creed Millésime 1849 was his first project with Harrods, named for the year the London store was founded. Jasmine, rose and ylang-ylang sit over cedar and laurel, and Creed has since brought it back from its archive.
