Bortnikoff Decants and Samples

Bortnikoff is a house for people who want to smell the actual raw material, not a clever reconstruction of it. Dmitry Bortnikoff builds his fragrances the slow, artisanal way, from genuine naturals that most makers simply cannot get their hands on. Real Indian oud fermented and distilled the old way, real deer musk tinctured over months, real ambergris, honeyed roses distilled straight into sandalwood. The result is perfume that feels alive on skin, warm, animalic, a little untamed, closer to an attar tradition than to anything polished and mass produced. This is exactly the kind of house that rewards sampling, because the materials are so rich and so personal that you really do need to live with them on your own skin before you commit.

Every Bortnikoff decant at Gouttes Rares is poured from a bottle we bought at full retail directly from the house, never from the grey market. We decant to order with lab grade Socorex syringes, offer the real sizes (1ml, 2ml, 5ml and 10ml), and measure and seal each one the day it ships. That means you can try the genuine juice, unhurried, and decide for yourself before spending on a full bottle.

• Oud Maximus. A rose and oud monument. Sparkling bergamot and pink pepper give way to an enormous, jammy bouquet of roses, then down into real Indian oud, smoky birch tar and the animalic warmth of deer musk and civet. Maximalism in the truest sense, built for richness and a long, smoldering drydown. From $24.
• Musk Khabib. A warm, clean animalic musk built around genuine deer musk and ambergris. Bergamot, cardamom and nutmeg open over creamy ylang-ylang and tolu, and the real star is the drydown, a salty sweet skin warmth over mossy vetiver, tonka and vanilla. • Musk Cologne. The classic cologne reimagined with real natural musk. A sparkling top of tangerine, sweet orange and lemon over soft white florals and green tea, grounded by musk, sandalwood and guaiac so it stays warm and lasting rather than fading like most colognes. How to start

If you are new to the house, begin with a 2ml of whatever pulls you first, most people reach for Musk Khabib for its skin warmth or Oud Maximus for its drama. Wear it a full day before you judge it, since these naturals unfold slowly. From there, build a small set across the three, and size up to a 5ml or 10ml of the one you keep reaching for.
