Bortnikoff Decants and Samples

A full bottle of Bortnikoff Oud Maximus is $541 here. Two millilitres of the same liquid is $25. When a house builds on real deer musk and four different ouds, that gap is the difference between a leap of faith and a proper audition.
Bortnikoff is the house for people who want the actual raw material, not a clever reconstruction of it. Dmitry Bortnikoff has worked out of Thailand since 2016, in tiny batches, the slow artisanal way: real Indian oud fermented and distilled the old way, deer musk tinctured over months, true ambergris, honeyed roses distilled straight into sandalwood. The results sit closer to the attar tradition than to anything polished and mass produced.
These are living materials, and they behave like it. The extraits read warm, animalic, a little untamed on skin, and because the naturals are real, no two pours smell exactly the same. Wearing one for a few days tells you more than any note pyramid ever will.
Every Bortnikoff decant here is poured from a bottle we bought at full retail directly from the house, never from the grey market. We decant to order with lab grade Socorex syringes into 2 ml, 5 ml and 10 ml, and each one is measured and sealed the day it ships.
The three we pour, ranked by performance
| Fragrance | Character | Logged longevity | Sillage | Decant from |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Oud Maximus | Four ouds, four roses, deer musk and civet | 8 to 10 hours | Strong | $25 (2 ml) |
| Musk Khabib | Deer musk and ambergris worn as a second skin | 8 to 10 hours | Strong | $25 (2 ml) |
| Musk Cologne | A citrus cologne with real musk underneath | 6 to 8 hours | Moderate | $21 (2 ml) |
Oud Maximus, the monument
Bergamot and sweet orange crack open over cardamom, four roses pour into one another, and then the floor drops: four ouds, Indian alongside Trat and Koh Chang from Thailand and a Sri Lankan distillation, laced with birch tar, deer musk and civet. Logged at 8 to 10 hours, sillage Strong. This is maximalism for the wearer who wants the room to know. From $25 for 2 ml, and the pours sell through fast: at this writing only the 50 ml bottle, $541, is in stock, so watch the page if you want a decant.
Musk Khabib, the one to start with
A warm, clean animalic built on genuine deer musk and ambergris that breathe like warm skin near the sea. Bergamot, cardamom and nutmeg open over heady ylang-ylang and tolu balsam, and the drydown is the whole point: salty, faintly sweet skin warmth over oakmoss, smoky vetiver, tonka bean and vanilla. Logged at 8 to 10 hours, sillage Strong. Refined, intimate, the house at its most wearable. $25 for 2 ml.
Musk Cologne, the easy door
The classic cologne rebuilt with real natural musk. Tangerine, sweet orange and lemon burst over green tea and soft white florals, then musk, sandalwood and guaiac wood keep it warm and lasting where ordinary colognes fade by lunch. Logged at 6 to 8 hours, sillage Moderate. Fresh, easy, with genuine depth underneath. $21 for 2 ml.
Those three are the ones we currently decant, and new pours join the shelf as bottles are sourced. The Bortnikoff collection is where they land first.
How to start
Begin with a 2 ml of whichever pulls you first. Most people reach for Musk Khabib for its skin warmth or Oud Maximus for its drama. Wear it a full day before you judge it: these naturals unfold slowly, and the drydown is where the money went. Then size up to the 5 ml or 10 ml of the one you keep reaching for.
Bortnikoff decants: the practical questions
How much does a Bortnikoff decant cost?
A 2 ml decant is $25 for Oud Maximus or Musk Khabib and $21 for Musk Cologne. A 5 ml runs $49 to $60 and a 10 ml runs $84 to $105. Full 50 ml bottles are $415 to $541.
Which Bortnikoff should I try first?
Musk Khabib. It is the house at its most wearable, genuine deer musk and ambergris worn close to the skin, logged at 8 to 10 hours, and a 2 ml decant is $25.
How long do Bortnikoff fragrances last?
In our wear logs, Oud Maximus and Musk Khabib run 8 to 10 hours with strong sillage. Musk Cologne runs 6 to 8 hours with moderate sillage, long for a citrus cologne.
Are these decants genuine Bortnikoff?
Yes. Every decant is poured to order from a bottle bought at full retail directly from the house, never from the grey market, drawn with lab grade Socorex syringes and sealed the day it ships.
Why do two pours smell slightly different?
Bortnikoff works with living naturals such as real deer musk, aged oud and ambergris, in small batches. Slight variation from pour to pour is normal for materials like these.
