The Story
Polaris is Lost Tribe's cold aromatic fougère, named after the North Star. The house states it is composed without deer musk or oud, unusual in this catalogue. Fragrantica and Parfumo credit Mathew Schmuelian, Lost Tribe's owner and maker; the brand's own page names no perfumer. Mint runs through the lavender throughout.

What it is
The highest grade of ambergris, a waxy mass formed in the gut of the sperm whale and expelled to drift at sea. Years of sun and saltwater bleach the lump from black toward dusty white and oxidize its near-odorless triterpene ambrein into the fragrant ambroxide and ambrinol.
How it smells
Soft, sweet and marine, the most refined and well-rounded of the ambergris grades. It evokes clean skin, warm musk, tobacco and seaside air over a velvety mineral sweetness. Pale and faintly powdery, it has shed the fecal animalic edge of fresher, darker pieces.
In perfumery
A radiant base note and fixative, used as a tincture that lends warmth, diffusion and a skin-like glow while extending other materials. It pairs with rose, citrus and labdanum; vintage classics and old-school orientals leaned on it before Ambroxan reproduced its core character synthetically.
Good to know
Aged white ambergris is the rarest and dearest grade, fetching tens of thousands of dollars per kilogram. It is gathered by beachcombing rather than from any whale, but that does not change its legal status: in the United States the sperm whale is protected, so ambergris cannot lawfully be sold, imported or held there, and Australia and India restrict it too. It trades legally in the United Kingdom and much of the European Union.
Lime
Green citrus zest with a bitter peel snap
What it is
Lime oil comes from the small green fruit of Citrus aurantiifolia (key lime) and Citrus latifolia (Persian lime), grown in Mexico, Peru and the West Indies. It is either cold-pressed from the fresh peel, like other citrus, or steam-distilled from whole crushed fruit, mostly for the soft-drink trade.
How it smells
Cold-pressed lime is sharp, juicy and bitter, full of fresh peel oils that smell like a just-cut wedge. The distilled grade is sweeter, smoother and almost candied, with a cola-and-soda lift. Both fade fast into a faint green, slightly soapy dryness.

Cold-pressed lime is strongly phototoxic; its furanocoumarins, such as bergapten, can scorch sun-exposed skin, so IFRA tightly caps its use. Steam distillation leaves those compounds behind, giving a sun-safe but sweeter oil, which is why many lime fragrances smell more of soda than fresh peel.
Lavender High Elevation

Lavender is a woody Mediterranean shrub in the mint family, mainly Lavandula angustifolia, grown across Provence and Bulgaria. Bergamot

Bergamot is a small citrus fruit, Citrus bergamia, grown almost entirely along the Calabrian coast of southern Italy. The aromatic oil sits in glands in the rind of the unripe green-yellow fruit and is cold-pressed mechanically from the peel rather than distilled, preserving its fresh brightness.

Orris is the aroma material from the rhizome of iris flowers, chiefly Iris pallida grown in the hills of Tuscany. The roots are harvested, dried and aged three to six years so slow oxidation develops the irones, then ground and steam-distilled into a waxy, ivory orris butter.

Blue Cypress
Dry evergreen breath of the Mediterranean coast

Cypress oil comes from Cupressus sempervirens, the columnar Mediterranean evergreen lining hills from Italy to the Levant. Across the Mediterranean and Persia the tall, slender cypress has long symbolized mourning and eternity, planted in cemeteries because its rot-resistant wood seemed to outlast death. Ancient Egyptians carved that durable timber into sarcophagi, and the scent still reads as solemn and meditative.
Mint
A cold green rush that clears the head
What it is
Mint oils are steam-distilled from the leaves and flowering tops of Mentha herbs, chiefly peppermint (Mentha piperita) and spearmint (Mentha spicata), cultivated in the United States, India and Europe. The fresh or wilted herb is distilled; cornmint (Mentha arvensis), the main industrial source of natural menthol, is then partially dementholised to crystallise the excess out.

Black Meat Mysore
The creamy gold standard of fragrant wood
What it is
Heartwood of Santalum album, a slow-growing semi-parasitic tree historically prized from the Mysore region of Karnataka, India. The dense inner wood and roots are chipped and steam-distilled. Fragrant oil concentrates in the heartwood, which begins to scent the wood at around ten years and deepens with age; a tree is seldom worth taking before fifteen or twenty.
