Bertrand Duchaufour is a French perfumer who began in 1985 at Lautier Florasynth in Grasse, where Lucien Ferrero taught him. He then spent ten years in fine fragrance at Créations Aromatiques and Symrise, went independent in 2008 and spent about a decade as resident perfumer at L'Artisan Parfumeur. In 2014 he joined TechnicoFlor in Paris, and the FiFi Awards in Russia named him perfumer of the year for 2017. He now runs his own house, L'Entropiste, with a boutique on rue des Francs-Bourgeois in the Marais.
Incense runs through his best-known work: L'Artisan Parfumeur Timbuktu (2004) and Dzongkha (2006), Comme des Garçons Avignon and Kyoto from the 2002 Incense series, and Amouage Jubilation XXV. He also made Eau d'Italie Paestum Rose and, for L'Artisan, Nuit de Tubéreuse and Fleur de Liane. Stéphanie Bakouche counts him as her mentor.
For MDCI he composed Chypre Palatin, a heavy, animal chypre. Hyacinth, tangerine and galbanum open onto rose, jasmine, iris and prune, and the base is built from castoreum, leather, styrax, benzoin, everlasting and oakmoss.
