A maker with no public face
Antagonist has no named nose and no founder portrait. Its creator writes in the first person, never signs, and prefers to stay unseen. The website is run by FATEGLOBAL STORE, a company registered in Năvodari, on Romania's Black Sea coast north of Constanța, and orders ship from Romania. The house began on instinct rather than a plan, from the idea that a smell can bring back a feeling you had lost. Its Bespoke service takes ten clients a year, each ending in a hand-labelled 50 ml extrait with a signed certificate.

From feelings to characters
The first collection, Extrait d'émotion, took its names from Norwegian, Japanese and German words for states of feeling: Forelsket, Natsukashii, Mono no aware, Weltschmerz. The second, Who Am I, turns to characters. Antagonist The Lover sets bitter orange and green rose against iris, violet and scorched sandalwood. The Stranger mixes espresso, salt air and oud. The Void goes after destruction with gunpowder, gasoline, charcoal, burnt rubber and frankincense. The Jester came next, with leather, tobacco, raspberry, beeswax and saffron.

Handmade in Romania at high strength
The Extrait d'émotion scents were poured at 40 per cent perfume extract in 10 and 30 ml sizes. The Who Am I trio, handcrafted in Romania, sits at 33 per cent oil in 50 ml bottles, with 15 ml travel sizes and a three-bottle story set. The Jester, also made by hand in Romania, goes to 50 per cent. The note lists read like scenes: holy water, old book pages, basement air, velvet drapes, aged parchment.
