Two Italian founders, then Dubai
Sospiro was started in Italy in 2011 by Sergio Momo and Dominique Salvo, the pair who founded Xerjoff in Turin, and it was kept separate from Xerjoff. Momo works as art director, not as a nose. In 2022 the house moved its base to Dubai, where Salah Al Zarooni now leads the creative work and signs recent launches. The perfumers around him include Nathalie Templer and Christian Provenzano, a nose with five decades of work behind him.

Named for the language of music
Sospiro is Italian for a sigh, and the names come from music and opera: Vibrato, Basso, Contralto, Mezzo, Bel Canto. Each composition begins with its title and is shaped to fit it. The palette runs from Mediterranean citrus to Turkish rose, leather, amber and sandalwood, with oud kept to a supporting part, a register pitched at Europe and the Gulf together. Sospiro Vibrato, by Provenzano, moves from grapefruit and ginger to vetiver and amber. Sospiro Il Padrino leans on rum, amaretto and benzoin.

Velvet and a rose-gold cap
The flacon is covered in velvet, finished to recall a butterfly's wing, and closed with an engraved rose-gold cap. The butterfly is the house emblem, a symbol of love carried from the perfume to the person wearing it. The range is split into Classica, Erba, Red, Exclusive and Nero lines, with 15 ml versions of several scents in a Miniature collection. Every order ships from the United Arab Emirates.
