Folkwinds is founder and lead nose Jono Bornstein, several extraits co-composed with perfumer Rajesh Balkrishnan, and it smells like the edge of a forest after weather has moved through it. Wild North American materials are gathered by hand and left with a high natural load, so each scent reads like a specific place caught mid-season rather than a formula on paper. Runs vary between batches, which is part of the point.

Expect fermented fruit, cold resins, damp bark, smoke, stacked oud registers, and orris so dense it reads as a texture instead of a note. The Jasper no Kodō line is made by co-extraction, the materials distilled together rather than blended afterwards, so the result cannot be separated back into its parts.

He rebuilt the formula from the ground up for clarity, calmer and cooler than the second, refocused on the balance of conifers and incense. Crimson and Clover is a Vermont autumn in extrait form, boozy cider and boiled cranberries cut with clove and ginger, sinking into green tobacco, sugar maple and Vietnamese oud. Start with a 2 ml of Jasper No Kodo 2 and wear it across a full day. If it runs too loud for your rooms, the III is the same landscape at a civilised volume, and Crimson and Clover is the house with its collar loosened.
