Church candles in Cattolica
In 1968 Evelino Terenzi opened a 16 square metre candle workshop in Cattolica, on the Adriatic coast. His father Guglielmo had helped found a waxworks that made devotional and Easter candles for churches. Evelino's children run the business today: Tiziana, trained in jewellery design, as art director, and Paolo, who learned to name scents in blindfold smelling games with his grandfather Guglielmo, as president and perfumer. In 2012 the family perfumes took Tiziana's name.

Fire, the moon and the sea
Classic Gold is built around fire and holds Kirke, Gold Rose Oudh and White Fire. Luna draws on the old Italian tale that everything lost on earth ends up on the moon, with Andromeda, Cassiopea, Draco and Orion, while Luna Stars names each extrait after a single star, such as Arrakis and Mirach. Sea Stars was Tiziana's gift for Paolo's fiftieth birthday, drawn from the sailing both took from their father. Dorade, a Harrods exclusive in that line, is named after a yacht designed in 1929 and opens on lemon and black pepper.

By hand in the Palazzo delle Candele
Candles and perfumes are still made side by side in Cattolica, at the family's Palazzo delle Candele, part of a 17,000 square metre plant. Everything is made by hand, at a slow pace. The Sea Stars extraits run at no less than 30 per cent oil. Tiziana's jewellery training shows in the packaging: on every Sea Stars bottle a large gold starfish wraps around the stopper.
