From Aden to the Dubai Mall
Asghar Adam Ali, known as Al Attar, was born in Aden into a family of perfumers and opened his first perfume store there in 1969. Unrest in Yemen moved the family to the United Arab Emirates, where Nabeel Perfumes grew from a 7,000 square foot warehouse to a 220,000 square foot site. In January 2015 he launched The Spirit of Dubai at The Dubai Mall, with Mustafa Adam Ali as managing director.

A city told scent by scent
Each fragrance takes one part of Dubai as its subject. The five shown at the launch were Bahar for the coastline, Rimal for the dunes, Abraj for the towers, Meydan for the racecourse and an oud built on Indian agarwood oil. Al Attar composed the range himself, split between a First Generation niche line and an ultra-niche Second Generation. Turath, Arabic for heritage, belongs to the first: peach, pineapple and cinnamon over oud and saffron, closing on leather, incense and amber.

Jewelled caps and a diamond record
Presentation carries as much weight as the perfume. Turath wears a jewelled gold metal cap embossed with the House of Nabeel pattern and sits in a blue leather pouch inside a blue leather box. In 2015 the brand won two Luxury Packaging Awards in London, for its carrier bag and its Dubai Royal Gift Set. In 2019 it unveiled Shumukh, a bottle set with 3,571 diamonds that holds the Guinness World Record for the most diamonds on a perfume bottle. The perfumes are made in the UAE.
