From a perfume counter in Annecy
Valérie Pulverail spent more than twenty years in perfume retail and marketing before opening Le Bistro de la Beauté in Annecy in January 2012. Four years behind that counter showed her what her clients were after: rare materials, real staying power and scents that ignore fashion. In 2016 she launched her own house. Her partner Rémi Pulverail, trained at the Charabot school in Grasse and formerly in charge of natural sourcing at Givaudan, had set up the laboratory L'Atelier Français des Matières in 2014.

A wardrobe of the great families
The plan is a scent wardrobe built on the great families of French perfumery, each perfume pushed with an overdose of one material or an unlikely pairing, so a collector can assemble a set the way one fills a closet. Antoine Lie, whose past work includes Giorgio Armani Code and Versace Crystal Noir, is creative director and composed the collection of ten. Les Indémodables Vanille Havane is his study of a single ingredient: dark vanilla bean with rum, cocoa, dried fruit and tobacco over leather.

Grand cru extracts from Archamps
Everything is made at the Archamps laboratory, which has owned the brand outright since 2024. The lab buys from small growers whose harvests are too small for industrial volumes and sells the resulting extracts as grands crus. Extraction runs on ultrasound with plant-based solvents in place of petroleum ones. Les Indémodables Vanille Havane holds a Comoros vanilla infusion at 9.1 per cent and an ultrasound cocoa extract from Colombia at 3.1 per cent. Each formula is matured, then filled on site and boxed by hand.
