Toskovat Inexcusable Evil on video: blood, cold air and gunpowder

One minute on one of the strangest fragrances we stock. Our presenter walks through Inexcusable Evil the way it unfolds on skin, from the metallic opening to the incense that closes it, with the bottle in her hand.

What happens in the video

Filmed in front of shelves of niche bottles, the clip opens on the idea that only a few people find the smell of blood beautiful, then follows the perfume's arc: copper and cold air first, gunpowder drifting in, then church incense, candle wax and the quiet after. A cutaway shows the Toskovat bottle on wet dark stone beside a lit candle. Every word is transcribed below the video.

What it smells like

Toskovat lists gunpowder and ozonic notes on top; iodine, blood, bandages, burning flowers, copaiba balm, cypriol and guaiac wood in the heart; and concrete, rain, incense and sandalwood in the base. The perfumer, David-Lev Jipa-Slivinschi, made it in response to the 2022 invasion of Ukraine. The gunpowder and ozone opening is meant to repel, and the iodine that follows stands for the need to treat the wound.

Who it is for

As the video says, this is not a perfume for everyone and it was never trying to be. It suits the wearer who smells something dark and leans in. The full story, the accord map and our longevity and sillage ratings are on the fragrance page.

Try it before the bottle

We open an original bottle of Inexcusable Evil and decant it into 2 ml, 5 ml and 10 ml atomizers, so you can wear it for a day or a season before deciding on the 60 ml bottle.

Transcript

Doctors, surgeons and psychopaths are the only ones who can understand why blood can smell beautiful.

There's a metallic note called copper. Clean, in the wrong kind of way.

Most people smell it and flinch. Some people smell it and go still.

If you're the second group, Toskovat made this for you: Inexcusable Evil.

It opens with blood and cold air, like a room right after something happened. Windows open, everything quiet. Then gunpowder drifts in.

Then church incense, candle wax, confessions. The crime and the guilt arriving together.

This is not a perfume for everyone. It was never trying to be.

It's for the person who smells something dark and leans in instead of stepping back.
