Zoologist Decants and Samples

Zoologist does not make perfumes so much as it makes creatures. Each release is a portrait of a single animal, handed to an independent perfumer and told to be fearless, and the results tend to divide a room in the best way. These are scents with weather and mood, built to be worn as a story rather than a pleasant background. If you have only met the house through its cult reputation, sampling is the honest way in, because a Zoologist is something you live with for a few hours before you know whether it is your familiar or your fascinating stranger.

Every Zoologist here is bought at full retail directly through the house and never from the grey market. We pour to order with lab grade Socorex syringes into the real decant sizes you see on each page, commonly 1ml, 2ml, 5ml, and 10ml, and each vial is measured and sealed the day it ships. That means you can try the scent properly on your own skin before committing to a full bottle, with none of the guesswork and none of the risk.

The Zoologist range

• Squid. A cold saline shock of ink and sea salt against a resinous spine of incense and opoponax, with pink pepper cutting the density before ambergris and benzoin pull it into a musky, skin warm oceanic amber that clings rather than fades. From $15.
• Tyrannosaurus Rex. Resinous and primal, built on a geological scale. A sharp crack of fir, black pepper, and bay leaf that collapses into a dense, smoky core of florals and ancient woods. From $15.

How to start

Start with a 2ml of whichever creature calls to you and give it a full day on skin before you decide. Squid and Tyrannosaurus Rex pull in very different directions, so a pair of 2ml vials makes an easy side by side. When one earns a permanent place in your rotation, size up to a 5ml or 10ml, then reach for the full bottle once you are sure.
